Privacy Policy
Last update: 17 June 2026
Screen Recording App is provided by Kraus und Karnath GbR ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data we handle when you use our app or this website, and - just as importantly - what we deliberately do not touch.
The short version: your recordings and screenshots stay on your device. We never upload them, we have no account system, and we do not sell data to anyone. The only information that reaches our servers is anonymous diagnostic data (crash logs and usage metrics) that helps us keep the app stable.

2. What we do not collect
Because this is the most common question, we lead with it:
- Your screen recordings and screenshots. They are written directly to your device storage. We have no servers that receive them, read them, store them, or transmit them.
- Your microphone audio or internal audio. Whatever you capture stays in the MP4 file on your device.
- Your camera or face-cam video. If you switch on the optional face-camera overlay, that video is drawn straight into your recording on the device. It is never streamed or sent to us.
- Files, photos, contacts, SMS, call logs, location, calendar, or health data. We never ask for access to any of these.
- Ads and ad targeting. The app and website show no ads. We do not use your data to target ads to you, and we do not build advertising or marketing profiles about you.
- Account information or passwords. The app has no account system, so there is nothing to sign up for and no password for us to store.
3. What we do collect
We use Google's Firebase platform for two narrow purposes: Firebase Analytics (anonymous usage metrics) and Firebase Crashlytics (crash reports). Both send the following to Google on our behalf:
- App interaction events - e.g. which screens you open, how often the app is launched, which features you use. These events are aggregate and do not include screen content.
- Performance and diagnostic data - app version, operating-system version, device model, country (derived from IP, not stored), session duration.
- Crash reports - the stack trace and minimal device state recorded automatically when the app crashes, so we can fix the bug.
- A pseudonymous device identifier (Firebase Installation ID and, for Analytics, an anonymous app-instance ID) that lets us count unique devices without knowing who you are.
- A mobile advertising identifier. On mobile, Firebase Analytics may also read the device advertising ID. We use it only to understand how the app is installed and used (for example, to tell new and returning devices apart). We do not use it to show ads or to build advertising profiles, and we do not share it with ad networks.
We do not link this data to your name, email, phone number, or any other identity.
3.1 Website analytics
This website (screenrecording.app) uses the same Firebase/Google Analytics setup to measure anonymous page views and navigation. No personal identifiers are collected.
4. Why we collect it
- To fix crashes and bugs (Crashlytics)
- To understand which features are used, so we know what to improve next (Analytics)
- To monitor release rollouts and catch regressions
We do not use this data for advertising, profiling, or resale.
5. Legal basis (GDPR)
The diagnostic data described in section 3 includes a limited amount of personal data (chiefly the pseudonymous identifiers and the IP-derived country). We rely on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in keeping the app and website stable and in understanding how they are used so we can improve them. We do not use this data for advertising or profiling, and you can object to this processing at any time (see section 9).
6. Data sharing
Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics are services provided by Google LLC / Google Ireland Ltd. They act as processors on our behalf. Google's privacy terms apply to their handling of the transmitted data: firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
We do not sell data. We do not share data with advertisers, brokers, or marketing partners. We may disclose aggregated, non-identifiable statistics (e.g. "this many users opened the app last month") in blog posts or marketing materials.
If our business is ever acquired, any data we hold would transfer to the acquiring entity under the same terms as this policy. We would notify users via the website before any such transfer takes effect.
7. International data transfers
Firebase data is processed on Google's global infrastructure, including servers in the United States. Google relies on Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU-US Data Privacy Framework for these transfers. See Google's documentation linked in section 6 for details.
8. Data retention
Firebase Analytics event data is retained for 14 months (Google's default). Crashlytics reports are retained for 90 days by default. Both retention periods are configured in the Firebase Console and can be shortened on request.
Because we hold no identifiable data, there is nothing we can tie back to an individual user.
9. Your rights
You can exercise the following rights at any time:
- Stop data collection: uninstall the app. That immediately ends all telemetry from your device. On mobile you can also reset or limit the advertising ID in your device privacy settings.
- Browser opt-out: block
google-analytics.comor install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to prevent website analytics. - Request information: email us and we will tell you everything we can associate with your device (typically: nothing, because the telemetry is pseudonymous).
- Supervisory authority: if you believe we have mishandled your data you may lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Authority of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany (ldi.nrw.de), or the authority in your own EU member state.
10. Children
Screen Recording App is intended for general audiences and is not designed for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the app and you would like us to confirm no data is associated with that child, contact us at the address above.
11. Cookies
The website sets a minimal set of first-party cookies for the Firebase/Google Analytics SDK (see section 3.1). No third-party advertising cookies are used. When you first visit the site we show a short cookie notice that links back to this policy. Your browser's "block third-party cookies" or "do not track" setting is respected.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The Last update date at the top reflects the most recent change. Substantial changes will be announced in the app release notes.
